Other miscellaneous explanatory notes:

Wildlife euthanized were critically injured/dying.

In 2021, PETA helped more than 26,000 animals from more than 250 localities, and spent more than $2,660,000 on companion-animal services locally. PETA operates the only private truly open-admission animal shelter in our region (and perhaps the entire state) with people on call 24/7/365 for emergencies and to welcome all animals, regardless of adoptability, without appointments, waiting lists, admission fees, or restricted hours. PETA's shelter is also one of the few that still provide free end-of-life services for guardians (nearly 500 of them in 2021) desperate to alleviate their animals' suffering from old age, illness or injury. Many were referred to PETA by other area animal shelters and veterinary clinics. Of the cats euthanized, more than 73% were injured, ailing, and/or unwanted feral cats perceived as a nuisance by citizens referred to PETA by localities that don’t provide any services to address free-roaming cat issues or whose shelters do not take cats in at all.

PETA's free/low-cost mobile clinics sterilized 13,150 animals, including 1,094 pit bulls and 511 feral cats. We transported more than 650 dogs and cats to and from the clinics free of charge. PETA assisted more than 3,000 families in keeping animals by providing medical services and by showing them how to cope with behavioral issues, grooming challenges, and more. We distributed more than 168 doghouses and over 1,300 bales of straw bedding free to dogs kept chained and/or penned outdoors.
