Other miscellaneous explanatory notes:

1 kitten died in foster care after multiple trips to the vet and emergency vet for a weak immune system and ongoing health issues. 1 puppy (the runt of the litter) had to be euthanized per vet recommendation as he had several organs that were not developing correctly.

Because the number of animals entering Virginia county shelters is so large and adoption rates in our area are low, we work with partner rescue groups to find adoptive homes for dogs. This has allowed us to save many more lives than if we were to tackle the problem on our own. While our dogs wait for partner rescues to have openings, we cover their medical needs such as vaccines, spay/neuter surgeries, and other needed care.
