Other miscellaneous explanatory notes:

Note: Wildlife (DEER/ SKUNK/ OPOSSUM) were destroyed/ dispatched using an agency approved firearm by either an LEO, or ACO in the Town of Vinton resulting from such wildlife being struck by a motorized vehicle or service call into the police department by a citizen who had noticed a wildlife-based animal sick, or unable to move. Animals related to sickness, especially Cervidae’s showed no signs of (Chronic Waste Disease)-CWD on visual appearance. Each Law Enforcement Officer, or ACO fills out a Vinton Police (Dispatch/ Firearm) Report based on each wildlife related case.

In addition, all other records regarding the safe keeping, adoption, animal transfer, and final disposition of either a domestic animal or livestock, the Town of Vinton (Police Department) has a contractual agreement with the Roanoke Regional Center for Animal Care & Protection (1510 Baldwin Ave NE, Roanoke, VA 24012). The contract requires both governmental entities to maintain equal records of each animal transported to the facility, housed/ kenneled, and final disposition of the animal in question. All other information pertaining to or including an animal that is humanly euthanized while in the custody/ care of the shelter shall be at the discretion of the Roanoke Regional Center for Animal Care & Protection – Veterinary staff. The VPD - Senior ACO shall be notified from the R.C.A.C.P. management regarding the euthanasian of any animal captured in the Town of Vinton, Virginia.
