Other miscellaneous explanatory notes:

Because the number of animals entering Virginia county shelters is so large and adoption rates in our area are low, we work with partner rescue groups to find adoptive homes for dogs. This has allowed us to save many more lives than if we were to tackle the problem on our own. While our dogs wait for partner rescues to have openings, we cover their medical needs such as vaccines, spay/neuter surgeries, and other needed care.

One of our cats was humanely euthanized due to age-related illness. We provided comprehensive medical care; however, when all options were exhausted, and her quality of life declined significantly, we made the difficult decision to let her go.
