Other miscellaneous explanatory notes:

274 dogs were received from Pittsylvania County when the Pet Center turned them away.
117 dogs from other localities were received (e.g. Halifax County, Martinsville, etc). when the public shelters turned them away
44 dogs euthanized after being surrendered by their owner because of injury of illness. When possible, the veterinary history was reviewed.
13 dogs euthanized by veterinarian.
87 dogs euthanized because of sickness.

481 cats from Pittsylvania County were received when the Pet Center declined to accept them.
213 cats from other localities were received (e.g. Halifax, Martinsville, etc.) when the public shelters declined to accept them.
32 cats euthanized after being surrendered by the owner because of injury or illness. When possible, the veterinary history was reviewed.
8 cats euthanized by veterinarian.
160 euthanized because of sickness or injury, mostly from injuries received before intake or because of upper respiratory infection.
