Other miscellaneous explanatory notes:

53 of the animals we euthanized (31 cats, 18 dogs, and 4 other companion animals) were euthanized on the same day they were brought to the shelter because they were so gravely sick or injured that treatment was not possible or would not have been humane. Of the animals euthanized, 12 cats, 14 dogs, and 1 other companion animal were surrendered for owner requested euthanasia where our veterinarian concurred with the decision.

We partner with a local veterinary clinic which takes in injured/ ill wildlife from the City of Alexandria and transfers them to rehabilitators directly.
