Column O, Euthanized:
Part of our rescue mission is to provide a loving home for senior dogs who have been left homeless by the death of an owner, or an owner going into a nursing home. The seniors that we pull from shelters are quite old, 12 to 15 years on average. They have medical issues and some are hospice dogs. We euthanize dogs if they are in intractable pain or are unable to eat and drink. This year we euthanized 5 dogs due to unmanageable pain or other condition such that we and our vet felt that the dog was needlessly suffering.
